Many players and coaches have contributed greatly to the sucess of the 49ers. Below are biographies of just a few of the great ones. Also check out the 49ers Wall of Fame and if you are interested in one of the best defenses ever check this out. Joe Montana

George Seifert
Hand picked by Bill Walsh him self, Seifert taught the 9ers defense. Later he took over for Walsh as head coach and had a larger winning perecentage then any other coach. George Seifert Biography
Bill Walsh

Steve Mariucci

Brent Jones

The 49ers were blessed with two Hall of Fame quartberbacks in a row. Steve Young lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl victory in 1994 and has lead the league in passing efficiency and rating. Bobb McKittrick
Bobb McKittrick passed away on March 15th. McKittrick was a 49ers by the very definition and was responsible for touching the lives of hundreds of players, and even fans. Bobb was a true gentleman and epitomized what it meant to be a 49er. McKittrick never gave up, coaching and fighting to the very last minute he will always be remembered as true gentleman, a kind person, and most of all for simply being the man he was. click here
Ken Norton JR
Ken Norton Jr. came to the 49ers for the 1993-94 season after winning conescutive Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys. Norton won his third consecutive Super Bowl championship in his first season with the 49ers - becoming the only player to ever achieve such an accomplishment. Norton was a leader both on and off the field, and will be remembered as one of the hardest hitting men in football. Ken Norton JR info here
Bryant Young
Perhaps the best defensive tackle to ever play the game of football Bryant Young is an even better person than he is a football player. It's pretty remarkable to consider that a person with a titanium rod in his leg would not only be able to play football, but play it at the level Bryant Young does. Amazingly Bryant Young contributes even more off the field. Not only is he one of the veteran leaders of the 49ers, but he spends much of his free time helping charities and giving to others. Ronnie Lott
He was one of the most ferocious hard hitting players to ever play in the NFL. Ronny Lott was the 49ers secondary for much of the '80s. It was he who offenses feared. He was later traded to the Raiders

Roger Craig
Roger Craig was argueably the best 49ers running back ever. He was quick and very strong. He and Tom Rathman were an unstoppable tandem for much of the '80s.

Charlie Powell
Charlie Powell was the youngest player in the history of the National Football League, just 19 years old when he became a starting defensive end with the San Francisco 49ers in 1952. He was 6'3" and weighed 230. In high school, he was such an outstanding basketball player that the Harlem Globetrotters tried to sign him. Charlie earned three varsity letters each in football, basketball, baseball and track at San Diego High.
