A big question about Manning's fit with the Niners is whether he will agree to run Harbaugh's offense, the way Harbaugh wants. I happen to think an offense that is not a wing it and sling it kind of thing is good for an aging quarterback who's coming off a very serious injury. Maybe Manning feels that way too. Some argue that Manning interest sours the team on Smith. I don't think that's the case. It doesn't seem like the Niners have not tried to sign Smith, but that they have yet to come to terms. Protecting themselves by looking at options is completely fair game.
