Put simply, there is no way the 49rs trade Trey Lance… and here’s why:…
The 49ers have been the subject of much speculation regarding the future of Trey Lance, their young quarterback prospect. However, despite the rumors, it seems unlikely that the team will trade away Lance anytime soon.First and foremost, Lance is a top-tier quarterback prospect. Comparing him to this year's draft class, he easily ranks among the top five QB prospects. With his impressive athleticism, arm strength, and accuracy, it's no wonder that the 49ers were willing to trade up to acquire him with the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Furthermore, Lance is still on his rookie contract, which makes him a more affordable option than many other quarterbacks in the league - and more affordable than this years draft class. This is an important consideration for the 49ers, who are looking to maintain a competitive roster while also managing their salary cap.
In addition to these factors, the 49ers also have a few other quarterbacks on their roster, but none of them seem to be as promising as Lance. Brock Purdy is currently dealing with an injury, and while his progress is unknown. Sam Darnold, whom the team acquired this offseason, is a reclamation project at best, having struggled with consistency during his time with the New York Jets.
Perhaps most importantly, Lance has already spent two years with the 49ers, learning the team's system and culture. This familiarity could prove invaluable as he continues to develop as a quarterback.
All of these factors suggest that unless the 49ers receive a "king's ransom" in compensation for Lance or believe that he is a total bust, trading him away at this point would be foolish. The team has invested significant resources in acquiring and developing Lance, and it seems unlikely that they would abandon him so soon.
