An NFL source told CSNBayArea.com on Sunday that Alex Smith has nobody to blame but himself for presenting the 49ers with an opening to pursue free-agent Peyton Manning.… Extra Point:
Smith signing a 3 year deal even 10 days ago, may not have precluded the Niners from looking at Manning. They may still have been willing to look at him and worry about putting all that money at quarterback - or trading Smith after the fact. Either way, it would be a completely different discussion had Smith signed. I still think Smith is just trying to build his leverage OR add some of a safety net in case Manning does sign. I think Smith wants back in SF if he has his choice, even after all this. It's his best chance to succeed also.
