It’s all in the in the family. The 49ers have announced that they will be hiring Klint Kubiak to join their coaching staff in a ‘high ranking offensive capacity’ – official title to be determined. …
Kubiak will be joining his brother, Klay Kubiak, who is already on the 49ers offensive staff. Klint Kubiak along with Brian Fleury (who was rumored to be promoted) will combine to run the 49ers offense under Shanahan, but it is not quite clear how their responsibilities will be divided or the hierarchy. The addition of Klint Kubiak to the 49ers coaching staff continues the long-standing relationship between the Kubiak and Shanahan families, with Gary Kubiak's ties to both Mike and Kyle Shanahan playing a significant role in their respective coaching careers. The Shanahan family's close ties to the Kubiak family date back several decades. Gary Kubiak, a former Broncos quarterback, was the quarterbacks coach for Mike Shanahan when he was the offensive coordinator for the 49ers under Head Coach George Seifert. The two would win their first Super Bowl together in the 1994-5 season. Gary Kubiak later followed Mike Shanahan to the Denver Broncos, where he served as the team's offensive coordinator for a decade. Mike and Gary would win 2 more Super Bowls together with the Broncos. During that time, Kubiak and Shanahan developed a close personal and professional relationship that has lasted to this day.
Gary, as the head coach of the Texans hired Kyle an offensive assistant in 2008 and 2009. Transcending the bonds between these families across generations. It is thus not surprising, that Kyle is loading his own staff with the Kubiaks.
Klint and Klay Kubiak are the sons of Gary Kubiak; Klint, like his father has made a name for himself as talented offensive minds who are adept at developing young quarterbacks. Klay had his first crack at quarterbacks this past season with the 49ers.
Klint Kubiak began his coaching career as an offensive assistant with the Houston Texans in 2010 (by then Kyle was in Washington), where he worked under his father, who was the team's head coach at the time. Kubiak later served as the quarterbacks coach for the Texans in 2013 before moving on to a variety of other coaching positions.
Klay Kubiak got his start with the 49ers as Defensive Quality Control coach, before moving to the offensive side of the ball as an Assistant Quarterback Coach. He will no work under the shadow of his brother, while all 3 will aspire to achieve at least the success of their fathers.
