The San Francisco 49ers will be sticking with Colin Kaepernick at quarterback in their Week 14 bout against the Miami Dolphins at Candlestick Park. The second-year pro will get his third straight start this week, despite some rather uneven play …
It appears head coach Jim Harbaugh has seen enough to hitch his wagon to Kaepernick for the remainder of this season. Last week, Kaepernick went 21 of 32 for 208 yards with nary a touchdown or interception. He did help his team running the ball, but that was also seemingly nullified by an errant pitch-out that was returned for a touchdown late in the game and by allowing a third-quarter safety. At any rate, this week's NFL odds have the 49ers as a rock-solid 10-point favorite over the Dolphins. The line has held steady at that number all week and is common to virtually all betting shops.
The 49ers lead the NFC West with a straight-up record of 8-3 and also possess a bettor-friendly 7-5 mark against the spread this season. The loss last week against the Rams was disappointing, however.
San Francisco limited the Rams to just over 300 yards total offense and was able to pound the running game with 148 yards on 36 carries—yet still came away with the loss . That would seem to put some blame on Kaepernick. However, it's possible the Rams were simply a tough matchup for the 49ers this season when you consider the tie result of those teams earlier matchup in San Francisco.
San Francisco is certainly among the elite teams in the NFL, but the Dolphins seem enticing in this spot . Especially when you consider they have covered against playoff-bound teams—New England and Seattle—each of the last two weeks. Look for young Kaepernick to struggle and the Dolphins to cover the 10-point line.
