San Francisco 49ers: Alex Smith preview edition By SBRF

The Niners and Alex smith made it to the NFC Championship game last season, and even though Smith didn’t lead the way, he was an important part of the squad. The rumors surrounding Peyton Manning and the 49ers in the …

With a lot of new weapons, and another season with coach Jim Harbaugh, things should get even better by the Bay. It all boils down to whether or not Smith is a bust or not.

Smith had a solid season in 2011, throwing for over 3100 yards, with 17 touchdowns and only five interceptions. Smith managed the game well, and was never really asked to win a game for them. The most yardage he had in one game last season was 291 against the Eagles in a win.

The Niners will continue to run the ball a lot. With Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter still in the mix, along with newly acquired Brandon Jacobs, the Niners would be crazy not to run the ball a lot. However, when they don’t, Smith will have a wealth of weapons to work with.

If Smith can limit his mistakes like he did last season, things will be great in San Francisco. However, Smiths five interceptions last season was the lowest of his career when he played a full season, (which he has only done once). I think Harbaugh has found the answer for Smith, and while the Niners’ quarterback won’t win you a fantasy title, he might win the city of San Francisco one if he can still play well.
