Former 49ers OC Mike Martz says Alex Smith is finally becoming the player everyone imagined after the team removed all the moving parts.… Extra Point:
It's interesting to hear Martz's perspective because he did coach Smith. I find it interesting that Martz wouldn't have asked Alex to consider surgery if he felt it was necessary. Martz also indicates he 'didn't know what to do about'. That speaks to just how dysfunctional the team was at that point. What Martz misses though is that Smith was instantly better under Harbaugh (and granted he was healthy), but what I'm getting at is that Harabugh found a way to make Smith better instantly - not after consistency set in as Martz is trying to suggest.
