There is NO WAY the Niners sign Manning. I'm not saying they shouldn't, just that they won't. They will spend their money on their own defensive free agents, improving the OL and receiver positions however they can. They are betting that Smith can be a hair better (which is all that is needed to get to the Super Bowl) with a full offseason and some additional protection and weapons - and long term that Kaepernick, or whoever else they may draft will be able to step up. The last thing the team needs though is a quarterback controversy mid-season. It's for that reason that I do not think the team will go after Johnson.
