Lowell's take on the gravity of this game is spot on. The team had earlier tests against the Eagles, and Lions for example - and actually, as it turns out the Bengals, but this game was a no excuse GPS game, and the 49ers were up to the task. Officials made good and bad calls on both sides of the ball, roughly a draw, this too makes it great barometer game. The only thing more the Niners could have got out of a game like this is if they did it again on the East Coast. The Niners found ways to win this game, in many years past, they would have found ways to lose it.
