Bringing in Johnson is inviting a QB controversy if Smith comes back. I suspect the Niners want to avoid that for at least another year or two, and just pretend Kaepernick has a shot at starting. If they can't sign Smith, I do think Johnson makes sense. But both? that's a bad idea.
