On the surface, the 49ers are comfortably under the NFL's salary cap. But the organization can use every dollar in cap savings it can muster when it comes to the final cuts.

The 49ers are using the injured reserve as a development tool ... that means the cap figure will be higher than on most teams. With some major contracts looming next season though, the 49ers are hoping to find some cap space that they can roll forward so that they can afford to retain some of the games best at their respective positions.
