NEW ORLEANS – Here’s what Jim Harbaugh said after the 49ers beat the Saints 31-21.
Q: Is Kaepernick your starting quarterback going forward?
HARBAUGH: Colin played well in a tough environment. He acquitted himself very well.
Q: Do you expect …
Extra Point:I fully expect Harbaugh to continue to not name a starting quarrterback until it makes sense to do so. It gives the opponent one more thing to worry about - even if Kaepernick is the likely starter. The team may choose to insert Smith to keep him fresh just in case, or to play him against a team they know he can beat just to continue to mess with opponents. It's a major chess game. Unlike last week, I don't believe Kaepernick was exceptional in this win, he played well enough - sure, AND I think he makes the team more explosive BUT he made more mistakes this week than last. Even though the team seems to play harder (maybe as a result of Kaepernick, maybe because we are in the home stretch of the season), I also think they have a harder time staying penalty free with Kaepernick extending plays. Take the bad with the good I suppose?
