Extra Point:Smith starting was obvious, made more obvious last night when Kaepernick showed signs, but really looked like a rookie. Kaep was expected to get a few opportunities to see the field in 2011, but if Smith plays like he did, that will only happen in blow outs in either direction. Truth is Kaep is not ready for even situational grooming yet. That's ok. THere is always next yea. Hunter as the primary back up to Gore, is something I think the team will go back and forth on depending on down and distance. He had a great preseason, but how he performs in the regular season (see 2010 Anthony Dixon) will be a key indicator.
