The San Francisco 49ers enter their bye in Week Nine coming off perhaps their best performance of the season and sitting atop the NFC West with a record of 6-2. The 49ers have been nearly as kind to their backers …
The 49ers next meet the St. Louis Rams in a home game in Week 10. St. Louis will also have extended preparation time for this game as they also will enjoy their bye this week. The Rams (3-5) are riding a three-game losing streak following their 45-7 thrashing at the hands of the New England Patriots in London last week. The 49ers are employing the same recipe that got them to the NFC Championship game a year ago. They boast the NFL's top-ranked defense in both yards- and points allowed this season and are No. 1 in turnover ratio at plus-28. Smith has played largely mistake-free football and the running game, led by Frank Gore, is averaging 168.8 yards a game to also top the NFL. That's plenty of positives for the 49ers to build on heading into the second-half of the season.
In the Rams, the 49ers face a team that has struggled to put points on the board this season under first- year head coach Jeff Fisher. Look for the 49ers stifling defense to dominate and Smith to do just enough to keep San Francisco rolling in Week 10.
