SANTA CLARA – The Niners free agent cornerback Carlos Rogers spoke at his locker this afternoon and here’s what he said.
Last night in my grades I said I didn’t think the Niners would resign him. After listening to Rogers …
Extra Point:It will not be easy to bring Rogers back. Even now that the team can offer players, a legitimate shot to compete for a Super Bowl, money is still a big factor in this league. Rogers, Goldson, and other free agents will all want their piece - and the Niners are not one to shell out big time. I expect the team will try and keep as many guys at it can, but there will be some who just will not be able too. Maybe that was partly why Braylon Edwards was released earlier in the season. I love that Rogers is willing to "put the team first" with the caveat that the Niners need to be fair. I think that is exactly reasonable.
You want to know why this team is different? When was the last time you heard a player talk about the Niners like Rogers did: "Like I told them, I like this from the owner to the general manager to everybody that’s in this organization. I like everything about this organization – all the players, the trainers. This ain’t about me coming out and saying, ‘Now I’m free, let’s get the check.’ I’m thinking about this team, and this is where I want to be."
