Alex Smith explains his high throws, and more

This is a portion of a syndicated post. Read the original at Inside the 49ers or scroll down the Extra Point.

SANTA CLARA — Here’s the transcript of Alex Smith’s Monday press conference.

Q: Did you and Shaun Hill brawl after the game?

ALEX SMITH: We had a slightly less physical handshake, hugged after.

Q: Did you see the incident between …

Extra Point:
Smith talks about making good decisions with the ball - and not getting his feet set, all when it comes to throwing high. The jury is still out on Alex. Some are saying he's a system guy, and managing the game. Fine. Others say he is starting to be the guy who wins game (see pass to Delanie). Also Fine. I think what's interesting here is that either Smith continues to get better and proves he can shoulder the team and thus the QB position improves... or he is a plug and play QB, and the 49ers will continue to look for a way to improve the position. I am not sure where I stand just yet, but it is clear the coaching staff trusted him to win the game for them yesterday - and he did just that. He came to the line very calm, knew where he was going with the ball, and was spot on. The only thing I didn't like about the play, and I say this win or lose, I hate when teams throw short of the endzone on plays like that. Hard to argue with the call though when it goes right. Huddle about #ASmith Winner or System Guy.
