The 49ers enter the 2012-13 season as one of the favorites on the NFL odds board to win the Super Bowl. They’ll definitely be getting a tough early test as they open the regular season with a road game at …
If we told you San Francisco went 13-3 last year, would you be surprised? The 49ers used some great coaching and outstanding defense and special teams to lock down one of their best seasons in recent memory.
Entering the new campaign, not much has changed in terms of the roster, though there have been a couple additions on offense which will be intriguing to track. Mario Manningham and Randy Moss were brought in to “bolster” a pass offense that ranked 29th in the league last season.
Alex Smith remains the quarterback, despite San Francisco swinging and missing on landing the coveted Peyton Manning during the offseason.
How will Smith and the 49ers do against arguably the top team in the entire NFL?
It's going to be a battle. San Francisco would be wise to slow this game down, get Frank Gore going in the backfield and to try and take as much time off the clock as possible. You want to keep the ball out of Aaron Rodgers' hands, that's for sure.
The 49ers' bread and butter is their defense, but the Packers proved last season that it doesn't really matter what you throw at them; they'll still find a way to beat it. We can't help but think that if Green Bay gets up early, this one will be dead and buried.
Rodgers and company have been ruthless at times and we're just not sold on San Francisco matching their productivity from last season. If anything, back the Packers at Lambeau to open up the season.
