The 49ers were the talk of the town with their blockbuster trade in 2021 that ultimately lead to the selection of Quarterback Trey Lance. They owned the headlines, and seemingly very little else mattered in the draft. …In 2022 though, the 49ers seemingly are sitting in the shadows, not selecting until the end of the second round, pick 61 overall. Yet, somethings remain the same - the 49ers are once again the talk of the town this offseason - and that's for two good reasons: Quarterback Jimmy Garopollo, and Wide Back Deebo Samuel.
All offseason, and in particular the weeks and days heading into this weeks draft have been focussed on when, and if they will be traded - and more importantly for what. If the 49ers pull the trigger on trading either of these top talents, the haul they are bound to receive and the 9 other picks they have littered accross the 7 round draft could lead to a draft that is even more exciting than last season. NFL Odds are rapidly changing heading to the draft Friday, April 29th-31st. With so much potential for the 49ers to explode on this year's draft you will want to be sure to stay on top of the action.
A trade of Garoppolo or Samuel could net the 49ers as much as 2 first round picks each - or similar compensation - that could give the 49ers enough fire power to go after consensus number one pick Tavon Walker, who currently sits as the top of betting draft boards. The pass-rushing super star in the making is followed closely by Aidan Hutchinson - and the two could make history going back-to-back at the top of this year's draft.
Of course for the 49ers to reach either of those consensus top 5 selections, they would need to do more than trade Jimmy or Deebo. Rather they would have to package some of the picks they have after that trade to move up and get a true anchor opposite Nick Bosa (who's 5th year option was just picked up by the 49ers yesterday).
With the draft only days away now, you can feel the intensity across the NFL fanbase and community starting to grow... that group doesn't realize it yet, but the 49ers could very well be the talk of the town, and fully in control of the draft for the second straight year - and all that it would take would be a trade or possibly two, of the two most talked about players this offseason.
