49ers find trade bargains in players with sinking stock

The 49ers filled two needs on the first day of the new league year with players whose stocks have fallen in the short time they've been in the NFL.

The 49ers started free agency with a good step forward. Returning Dawson was the most important move of the day, but Bethea is insurance at safety (the Niners are still likely to add a draft pick or see if CJ Spillman can take on the role) and Gabbert gives them an option at quarterback that was previously highly sought after. Gabbert obviously has not panned out, but his joining the 49ers removes the immediate need of finding a backup for Kaepernick. The team can still go that route too if it feels there is a really reliable veteran or a worthy player in the draft.
