49ers can’t catch a break when it comes to drafting wide receivers

This is my Saturday column on the 49ers’ recent history drafting wide receivers.

By now, you’ve seen what I’ve seen from A.J. Jenkins the past two training camps:

A wide receiver utterly overmatched by starting NFL cornerbacks. Friday night …

Extra Point:

I think ... for once... Grant is on to something here. I have said for a long time that the 49ers should not draft receivers in the first round... even when guys do turn out - like Crabtree, I don't think the reward warrants the risk. There are better spots to choose a receiver. I hope Patton turns out for this club, because it is becoming quite clear that AJ Jenkins is not ready.
