49ers and Cardinals rumble

This is a portion of a syndicated post. Read the original at SFGate: Chronicle experts blog about the SF 49ers : Niner Insider or scroll down the Extra Point.

The old Rodney Dangerfield joke about showing up to a fight and having a hockey game break out applies to the 49ers and Cardinals. In the 49ers' 23-7 workman like win, little skirmishes broke out throughout the game, including 49ers… Extra Point:
Goldson retaliated, he shouldn't have, but he did, and I understand why he did. That being said, this game may have been the medicine it needed. Lucky it was against Arizona. You just knew Akers was going to have a bad game at some point. You knew the team would lose composure at some point. You knew Smith would make some bad throws (including in the redzone at some point). So you take your medicine - in this case all at once, and hopefully come back strong and healthy in a short week. The team definitely missed Miller when he went out, same with Davis on the OL. Great to see Williams get involved in the passing game again, and Davis (who has not been on the same page with Smith) start to dial it in. In fact, if you look at this game, Crabtree and Williams are clearly on the same page as Smith. Walker was a non-factor for the first time in ages, and so Davis finally got some looks. Davis and Smith, like Edwards and Smith still need to get on the same page this season.
