The 49ers recognize that if they are to deal with the changing nature of quarterbacks in the league - they need to be able to chase them down and make them afraid to leave the pocket. Hence the plan... go big and with great athletes. Disrupt the pass, and that will benefit the coverage teams. That, and if they can effectively lock up receivers at the line, then their speed won't matter nearly as much.
