I have never had bathroom reading quite as good as The Football Fan's Manifesto, by: Michael Tunison. Now that is not meant to be a put down in the slightest, thought it may be more than anyone of you really need to know about me. This book - a compilation of short essay like stories, written by Michael Tunison co-founder of the blog Kissing Suzy Kolber was the pefect read to keep handy in the 'john'. For that matter, I do not think I have ever laughed quite as hard in my private library either.
This book really explains what it is to be a true football fan. In fact, I firmly believe it should be mandatory reading for any fiance of a real football fan - and have since given the copy to my wife so that she can better understand my fandom / insanity. There is no doubt in my mind that that this can only help our relationship! I am thus, without furher adeu ready to pronounce this book the funniest football book I have ever read AND a fundamental relationship building device for any couple. How is that for a rave review?
Without going into too much detail, so as to not take away from the hilarity of the read, the book focusses on the life of a football fan from choosing a team as a youngster, to literally spreading your ashes at the 50 of your home field. Whether it be choosing your mate, finding friends, how to tailgate - or even what do during the dreaed off-season this book literally is the best illustration of what it is to be a football fan I have ever come across - and yes, there is something in here for you fantasy buffs as well.
The entire book is written with wit and humor that really comes through. It's easy to identify with, and helps you rationalize all your craziness and even your superstitions.
