A few years ago the 49ers went back to their roots with colors and jerseys similar to their tradition. When this season kicks off, against the Vikings, the team will be in their new, alternate, and ugly black jerseys.…
When it comes to odds for NFL kick off weekend (Odds provided by Mybookie.ag) the 49ers are not favored, and black jerseys are certainly not going to change that. This is an unfortunate move for a team rich with tradition.Sure there are some that will suggest the black is more intimidating... to them I say, red was the color of 5 Super Bowls. Red is the color of Montana, Rice, Young, Craig, Lott... the list goes on. That's intimidating. The folks at MyBookie likely agree too. When a team is looking at #20 in the back field I want them thinking of Garrison Hearst stiff arming as he's breaking one down the sideline... not "oh those are nice new jerseys".
Unfortunately, fans are playing right into the ownerships desire on this one. They are purchasing these jerseys all over the place - which was exactly the plan from the get go. Instead of talking with their wallets, they are shovelling extra dough towards a team that has had arguably the worst offseason of their history. How does that make sense?
Fans, I implore you, as you sit back and watch your 49ers this weekend, don't buy the black jerseys. Resist the urge to have everything 49ers ... and send the ownership a message that our traditional reds are the way to go.
