The 49ers used their first of two third round picks to draft receiver Jason Hill. Hill is considered very good value near the top of the third round. He will instantly compete for a top three spot on the teams depth chart, and that will mean tight competition between Hill, Williams, Battle, Lelie and perhaps Darrell Jackson if the trade with the Seahawks goes through.
Hill is a very consistent receiver, he is pretty quick, but not a true deep threat. His good hands make him a good prospect for a number two receiver. Despite not being a physical specimen, Hill plays deceptively large using his body effectively to shield defenders away from the ball. Hill is also expected to play some special teams as he adjusts at the next level.
Hill is coming off an ankle injury, which affected his numbers in his senior year. He has good character and will need to use that character to more aggressively push to find a spot near the top of the 49ers receivers depth charts. He goes all out on every down, and will benefit from the tutelage of Jerry Sullivan the teamÕs WR coach.
