It’s funny how things work out. Had the NFL not realigned this off-season, the 49ers wouldn’t be sitting pretty on top of the NFC West. Rather the team would be in third place, behind New Orleans, Carolina. Yes, that’s right I said New Orleans and Carolina - who are both believe it or not 3-1.

Realignment couldn’t have worked better for the 49ers, who at 2-1, lead the Arizona and the winless Seahawks and Rams. Still, it’s way to early to talk about reclaiming the NFC West crown that the 49ers believe so rightfully belongs to them. The team is fortunate enough to be at 2-1 after not really playing a ‘good game’ of football yet.

I have to believe that playing a winless Rams team is scarier than playing a 3-1 Rams’ team. The odds of such a talented team going 0-5 are unfortunately quite low. Beating them, when they are so hungry for a victory will be incredibly challenging.

The NFC West is of course the 49ers division. They believe it belongs to them, and they have made it their mission this season to recapture their crown. With the help they received from the NFL this off-season they are a step closer; a win against the Rams however would put the 49ers in their best position in the division in years.

Talk about it in the 49ers Paradise Forum
