In an effort to reach out to the fans, the 49res held a “Football 101” session at the University of Pacific Stockton on Friday, where the team also is holding its training camp. 49ers alumni offensive line man Jesse Sapolu and running back Wendell Tyler acted as the professors of the class.

Diagramming plays from the West Coast offense, the two began their animated session explaining some of the intricacies to the fifty-six fans in attendance. The dynamic session was designed to bring fans closer to the game, and did not stop and the bare X’s and O’s of the 49ers.

Sapolu and Tyler recounted stories of playing jokes on rookie players, and on the conditioning and determination required to be a success in the NFL. The two explained road trip procedures and some of their favourite moments with the 49ers.

All in all it was a fun time, in an event that may become an annual affair for the 49ers. Fans were also given the opportunity to ask questions and get autographs from the alumni.
