Tim Rattay may finally get a chance to strut his stuff when the 49ers play Oakland this weekend. Rattay has improved steadily this off-season, but the 49ers have been unable to fairly evaluate him because of the talent, or lack there of, surrounding him in exhibition games.

Steve Mariucci expects most of the starters to play through the second quarter. Jeff Garcia will likely see the bench after the first quarter, and Terrell Owens may only get a series with Rattay who is expected to play through the third quarter. Brandon Doman will likely take over in the fourth.

While not having much time with Owens will surely hinder Rattay, playing with the starting running backs and behind a more solid offensive line can only help. Last week Rattay completed nine of ten passes, but was unable to move the chains and rarely passed to his receivers. The 49ers would like to see more from their back up quarterback in the final two pre-season games.

Talk about it in the 49ers Paradise Forum
