Passing Camp Ends
June 1 2002
By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise
The 49ers passing mini-camp came to an end on Friday. The team will break for a few days before it begins its final mini-camp next week. That camp will include the full squad and will last four days. As the passing camp ended, there was a fair bit of 49ers tid bits floating around.

Carmazzi Receives Second Shot:
The quarterback position has a heck of a battle, particularly at the third spot. But Giovanni Carmazzi continues to miss time due to injury. Carmazzi received his second cortisone shot during this camp, and is still a ‘no go’.

Linebackers To Lead Defense
Last season the 49ers linebackers amassed 35% of the defenses total tackles. The team believes it has four stating caliber linebackers on its roster with: Julian Peterson, Jeff Ulbrich, Derek Smith and Jamie Winborn. While Winborn continues to recover from a knee injury, rookie Saleem Rasheed is getting some extra practice time. The 49ers are very happy with this group of players.

Running Wild
Kevan Barlow continues to draw rave reviews from the team. The second year running back has trimmed down, losing 11 pounds and is reportedly in the best shape of his life. Barlow will see the ball more often this year, as he continues to push Garrison Hearst for the starting running back spot.
