49ers Get Ready For 2nd Day Of Camp
May 30 2002
By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise
The first day of the 49ers’ current mini-camp went rather smoothly Along with no reported injuries, the team signed three players, and had one more in for a workout. Defensive tackle Jim Flanigan whose spent eight years in the league playing for both the Bears and Packers, was in for a workout with the team. Flanigan is a player the team is considering to add for depth.

Despite his average of over 5 sacks a season, Flanigan would have a tough time making the roster. The team is very pleased with the progress of Jon Schlect and doesn’t seem ready to part ways with former first round pick Reggie McGrew. Couple that with the addition of rookie Josh Shaw and free agent Sean Moran this season, and the team appears quite full at the position. Of the current roster players, McGrew is the one player who the team would consider replacing of the ones mentioned.

The second day of camp should be even more focused than the first. Players will start the day off early and go through film sessions, meetings and field work. The second day of the passing camp will also give the 49ers a greater opportunity to evaluate their quarterback situation, and for Garcia to continue developing that special chemistry with his receivers.

Talk about it in the 49ers Paradise Forum
