As I sit here writing, it is 1 AM EST, not that late compared to my normal night, but by the time tonight is done, I should see dawn. 49ers Paradise has now returned to be ‘fully up to date’ after a series of problems on my computer forced me to concentrate efforts on restoring my system in the little spare time I have. I’m happy to report that after significant cost, time and effort, and lack of sleep, I once again have a computer that is fully operational, and can thus resume my normal daily, and for that matter nightly functions. Before I go any further, I would like to sincerely apologize for the unexpected interruption in service, and for not returning the emails sent to me this week, as you read on, I think it will become quite apparent as to the reason behind all this.

On September 24th, my computer became highly unstable. Multi tasking became problematic, as the system continued to run dangerously low on resources. The problem was attributed to an update that was suggested by my operating system manufacturer. As you may have noticed, since then, I have been absent from the forum, though I did manage to maintain updates for the next day and a half. Throughout the 24th and 25th I tried a series of remedies on my computer, and invested in a hard drive to backup the website, and most of my data.

At about noon on the 25th, it became pretty obvious to me, that despite my efforts, I was left with only one option. A full format of my hard drive, and a re-installation of my operating system. The process took only two hours, but when I went back on my computer, the same difficulties were experiences. Four formats and re-installs later, I was able to finally get the computer functioning as it should have been, but by that time, it was already the 26th.

I spent the 26th repairing the network interface of my server, which thankfully only lost one major component during a power surge. Once I was able to re-establish the network, I spent another two hours transferring my files back on to my computer, and then four hours, restoring every program that I had on my computer. This process also involved recovering my email, and all of the settings on my computer.

And now, it’s early morning on the 27th. My computer is almost back up and running, and the website is fully up to date. It would have been a quicker resolve, but I also had to attend my University classes, and go to work - and so I was left with sacrificing sleep to get the site and my computer back up and running as quickly as possible.

Having an operating system failure to the extent that I had was something I don’t wish on anyone. Over the past three nights, I’ve had 12 hours of sleep total, and so please understand that exclusive 49ers Paradise content written by me, will begin again at some point in the next 24 hours, as I try to get my body back in shape.

Again, I can’t thank you all enough for your patience and understanding. I can’t guarantee that this won’t happen again, but I can guarantee that I will do my best to make sure it doesn’t.

Thank you,
Bryan Hersh
