After undergoing an x-ray to determine the extent of the damage to Jeremy Newberry’s finger, the 49ers learned that situation was worse than they had originally figured. Newberry’s finger was originally believed to be just jammed pretty badly. The x-rays however revealed a spiral fracture.

Newberry will have to undergo surgery to implant two screws into the bone to hold the finger together. The surgery was scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Newberry hopes to be ready for the 49ers final pre-season game.

Newberry is one of the 49ers best offensive lineman, and for those that know him, they know he’s a great person too. It’s truly unfortunate that he has been hit with two injuries this summer.

Newberry can snap the ball with either of his hands, but feels more comfortable doing it with his right hand. He hopes to get a fair bit of practice using his left hand before the season starts to make sure his injury won’t prevent the team from running smoothly.

Further -The Washington Redskins have signed their PK Jamie Rheem, who was previously with the San Francisco 49ers. Terms of the deal are not immediately available.
