Introducing Josh Shaw
April 26 2002
By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise
Introducing Defensive Tackle Josh Shaw:

The Particulars:
College: Michigan State
Height: ~6'3"
Weight: ~279 lbs
40 Time: ~ 5.08 seconds
Vertical Jump: ~31 inches
Bench Press: ~ 380 lbs
Hometown: ~ Fortlauderdale, Fla.

College Highlights:
Josh Shaw was a three year starter at the collegiate level. He is a battler that constantly saw through double teams. He's a physical run stuffer that plays the middle with great aggression. Was a big play maker though out his final season. He is one of the top ten leading tacklers for his team, and forces fumbles, interceptions and sacks.

Role With 49ers:
The 49ers were very happy to get Shaw when they did. The team sees him as the future at defensive tackle, likely taking over for Dana Stubblefield. Shaw however, will not be pushed along. Coming back from a severe knee injury, Shaw will be given time to heal and likely wont see significant play time in the rotation until about mid season. As a defensive tackle, don't look for him as a special teamer either.

Quotes To Note:
"We think that when he gets healthy, we will have a heck of a player inside for us, This is a guy we had given a much higher grade in the draft and we are pleased to have him."
-Steve Mariucci

Injury History:
Josh Shaw is recovering from a terrible ligament injury in his knee. The 49ers hope he will be able to start practicing by August.
