Introducing Kevin Curtis
April 25 2002
By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise
Introducing Safety Kevin Curtis:

The Particulars:
College: Texas Tech
Height: ~6'2"
Weight: ~212 lbs
40 Time: ~4.53 seconds
Vertical Jump: ~37.5 inches
Bench Press: ~225 lbs
Hometown: ~ Lubbock, Texas

College Highlights:
Kevin Curtis played both safety positions in college, free and strong. He was a three year starter and during that time he became second on the schools all-time tackle list with 422 (246 solo). He is able to sack the quarterback too and has shown good ability to go after the ball.

Curtis is explosive off the edge and attacks the defenders. He hits extremely and can change direction quite well.

Role With 49ers:
The 49ers top two safety positions are set with Parrish and Bronson, but behind them there will be great competition for the next two spots. John Keith is still injured from last season, and so the 49ers felt it necessary to draft a safety. In Curtis they got a great one, who will fight for a roster spot with Keith, Heard and Al Blades.

Curtis will see lots of special teams duty if he makes the roster. He is expected to be groomed to take over one of the safety positions - as Keith had been prior to his injury troubles.

Quotes To Note:
"We like this kid a lot, he has great instincts in the core, great ball skills, is extremely physical and is a very bright kid. To have him sitting that late was almost unbelievable. He's been one of their most productive players over the last three years The fact that he has played free safety, strong safety and special teams gives him a real advantage. "
-secondary coach Brett Maxie.
I'll come in and do what they ask of me, It will probably be on special teams my first year. They have two great players in Zack Bronson and I'm really excited about Tony Parrish. I'm just trying to help the team as much as possible. I love it. I've always heard great things about the San Francisco organization, how they are very professional, even though I'm from Texas, I've always been a San Francisco 49er fan. This is a privilege. My dad and I were talking about how it would be cool to play for our team and I get to play for our team! This is a dream come true."
-Kevin Curtis

Injury History:
There has been no doubt cast on Curtis's medical status.
