Fiore Ready For New Position
June 4 2002
By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise
Dave Fiore was one 49ers who was very closely related to the events surrounding September 11th. Having grown up in New York, Fiore had friends and family who were affected by the incident. It hurt Fiore not to be there.

Perhaps not being there, was why it was so special for Fiore to be honored as a captain for the NYPD vs NYFD Charity Football game. Fiore has friends in both forces, and was very happy to spend some time with him.

Fiore is now back with the 49ers and getting ready to start at a new offensive line position. The talented lineman has played all positions along the line of scrimmage throughout his career. This season he will be asked to shift from right to left guard, filling the gap left by the recently released Ray Brown.

Fiore is quite capable of filling the big shoes Brown has left for him. He will however, miss Brown on the field, in practice and in the locker room. The two were good friends, and Fiore learned a lot from Brown. Fiore expects to make a smooth transition, but did emphasize that he will have to work on some of the techniques that are different in protecting Jeff Garcia’s blind side.
