Buffalo assistant head coach Anthony Lynn, who interviewed Jan. 7 for the 49ers’ head-coaching position, is reportedly in the mix to join Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator. Lynn is interviewing for the position with the 49ers, Fox Sports reported Wednesday.…
Extra Point:
We are seeing a number of offensive coordinator candidates emerge who have a strong running background. Lynn fits that bill. So far, there haven't been any dramatic options emerge. Part of that could be that Kelly will ultimately be in control of the offense, and that takes a certain willingness of a coach to relinquish that control It does seem though, that Kelly is looking to balance his fast-paced passing attack with some balance from the run game.
In just a few short hours Kelly will be formally introduced to the media in the opening press conference. We should get a bit better of an understanding as to how this will all unfold trough the questions and answers in that conference. One of my worries with Kelly's hire though, was whether he could assemble an adequate coaching staff. So far, I haven't been nearly as encouraged by the staff being mentioned as I was under Mike Nolan let alone Jim Harbaugh.
I am sure that with the Super Bowl lurking on Levi Stadium, the team is anxious to get some of these pieces in place. The last thing the host city wants is for its own team to be in turmoil. The good news is that the Super Bowl 2016 Commercials should be a good enough distraction to keep most of the real football operations stuff flying under the radar.
