Jim Tomsula says Bruce Ellington, Michael Wilhoite and Glenn Dorsey will return to practice this week, plus more

This is a portion of a syndicated post. Read the original at Inside the 49ers or scroll down the Extra Point.

Last week you intimated you’d be shuffling around the offensive. Is the first unit the unit you’ve settled on? TOMSULA: No, it is not the unit we’ve settled. We are not settled there. We’re getting closer. I like what (Joe)…

Extra Point:
A full statement from Tomsula. The injury list is much longer this time around than it was after the first preseason game, with guys starting to get really dinged up.

I think we are starting to see the offensive line come together. There may be one more combination the team tries, but they have certainly heightened the flexibility of the unit. They are still learning though, and banking on Staley to remain healthy and ready to lead that unit.

Bowman spent considerable time watching tape through last season and this offseason. The effort he would have put into playing clearly went into the film room. If the game has slowed down for him, that could make him even more potent.

The 49ers are off to Denver this week to practice with the Broncos. The team will get some repetitions against an elite club, a chance to stack up against Peyton Manning, and an opportunity to lean a thing or two. Of course, don't expect either club to be too revealing, you'll see a scaled back set of practices. I'm not sure if the cost / benefit equation really makes all that big a difference.
