There is a saying sports, that if you aren’t getting better, you are getting worse. Well, for the 49ers this offseason, they certainly didn’t get stronger. If you head over to NFL betting at Paddy Power it is quite evident …
Just two years ago this 49ers club would have been early favorites to win just about every game in the season. Fast forward through two coaching changes, a lost sole at quarterback, and a management office that is afraid to make a move - and ladies and gentleman you have have 2016, 49ers.Chip Kelly will only be able to turn so much of this team around. With management afraid to invest, the only new talent of note that comes to this team is through the draft. After a rash of retirements last offseason, the 49ers are watching more talent - like Anquan Boldin walk out the door. When will the bleeding stop?
Colin Kaepernick may have improved vision with his new contact lenses, but that's a far cry from making up for his drop off in body mass. The former Super Bowl quarterback, the man who single handily could win games for the team may lose his starting spot to a second chance quarterback in Blaine Gabbert.
There was a time when at least the defense could be looked to keep the Niners in games. There was a time through the Alex Smith rebuilding phase that the defense at least could be a source of comfort. Today, that defense has big gaps up front, in the middle, and in the backfield.
Even the kicking unit is not the stable force that this team once was. Oh how the mighty have fallen. As we sit on the frontier of training camp I hope for hope as right now I don't even have that. If this team can inspire me to get excited again, than the 2016 49ers will have done their jobs. In the mean time, we sit idle... waiting to see if the quietest offseason that ever was... has method to its madness.
