All Hyped Out
April 22 2002

Two-hundred and sixty-one draft prospects on the board, Two-hundred and sixty-one draft prospects, if one of those prospects would happen to fall, there would be two-hundred and five draft prospects on the board. Draft weekend is always an exciting time of the off-season. It's like every NFL team competing against each other in one giant game of chess. But when it's all over, what do we have? A bunch of rookies who may or may not make a difference.

I love draft day, I can't say I don't. I find it invigorating. I get attached to the prospects and love to speculate. It's a ton of fun. At the end of the two days though, I'm mentally exhausted. Who did we sign again? Why him? Is it enough?

I can't say I've had too much football, because I haven't, but I think the draft is a dangerous time of year. Football addicts like myself, we need to be eased back into the football weekend, but the draft, it's just overwhelming. I'm not complaining, it's just there is such an emotional let down after the final pick - that I need more.

I need the mini-camps already, but I guess we will all just have to wait. Wait and wonder about whether all these new additions to the team really matter. Isn't it September 5th yet?

Talk about it in the 49ers Paradise Forum
