Many in here were high on him back then. It would not hurt to give him a look. Sing. might be able to motivate him and turn it around ala Davis, and like you said Brooks.

Gholston is intriguing. I remember thinking way back when he seemed ridiculously stiff and wondered if he could play the outside in the 3-4. He might be better off playing as a 4-3 end its hard to say. I would say if he does become available he would someone I would for sure consider.
As for D-5 I would consider him as well. I personally wouldn't mind one bit if they went after him, especially if the Cards start to sniff around. I'd really not like to face him twice a year for what 3-4 years. He already beats up on the Niners the way it is. I would at least get in a bidding war so the Cards would have to give up something significant to get him. I still doubt the Niners go after him. I think the team feels another year with the same offense and two top 20 picks they can make a difference and be a playoff team with Smith. I am not sure I agree but it seems the route this team is considering.
Peppers will sign with a team like the Patriots, Jets, Redskins, maybe Dolphins. I would be shocked if Scot is even thinking about it.

McNabb is a good QB, almost a great one but I worry about him in San Francisco. He's been a West Coast offense guy forever and, like Garcia I doubt he'd do well outside of it. Certainly, he'd be an upgrade but I'm not certain he'd be the perfect fit.
Gholston won't be going anywhere until next season. Think of why Russell is still the QB in Oakland... the GM doesn't want to lose his player and see him succeed somewhere else.
As for Peppers? Heck, I'd take him, but I'm not certain he'd be a good fit in a 3-4.... I don't think Scot is willing to take the chance that he overpays a guy who flops. I agree with Ntodd's targets but who knows.... there are always teams out there that need to make a splash.
The UFA I'm most intrigued about is Richard Seymour. Granted, I'm sure the Raiders will put the franchise on him (if they didn't, the NFL should take over the team and send Al to the farm up north). It'll be fun to watch his status this offseason!

OK, I get it. But the pass-protection actually improved during the season, ending up being pretty decent imo. I know McNabb's not as mobile as he used to be but I see no reason why he wouldn't be an instant upgrade for the 49ers at QB.
There's a lot of QBs in the NFL I would like to get before McNabb but if he's available and the price is right, why not?

Instant upgrade at QB? Undoubtedly. OLine got better? I didn't see that, or at least the consistency aspect.
If the price is right, then you bet I would get excited. The problem is the price will most likely be costly. I can't think of the Eagles parting ways with him for less than a second rounder, and that would be to much for a team with more glaring holes (agree to disagree). Anyway... Porter anyone? I like it. Will give some needed tenacity to this defense, as well as pass rushing skills.

a) I doubt Phiily trades McNabb anywhere, and b) I really, REALLY doubt they would send him to an NFC team, let alone us.
Remember that they play the Niners next year, and if all goes well, could face us in the playoffs too. Why put McNabb in a position to embarrass your team?
If he goes anywhere, IMO, it will be to the AFC. But I think there's an 80% chance that McNabb is still w/ Philadelphia in 2010.

Too many Molson's pls explain? Molsons? A beer I guess? I just meant that some of us hope there is an alternative to Alex in 2010 or at least that the team will bring in someone who can push him in the off-season and TC. And I really like Lord of the Rings...

If a perennial playoff contender does not want him back, than I don't want him. Great career, future first ballot Hall of Fame player, but that is all I want to remember from his career.

The LT of 2006 I would take. But not the LT of 2010. There are better things to 'buy' than him at this stage.

Not even if we could land him at a decent price? While he is not even close to what he was a few years ago, keep in mind he scored 12 td's in09. It is a long shot as we do have other much more important needs. Just thought I would throw it out there.

He scored TD's because they give him the ball at the Goal line. As a player he's completely shot, which is why SD is letting him walk with no one currently on the team to replace him.

Source: Seymour will get franchise tag http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4925256Oakland invested a 2011 first-round pick to get defensive end Richard Seymour from New England, and it seems determined not to lose him. The Raiders will use their franchise tag on Seymour if the two sides cannot agree on a long-term contract extension, according to a source close to the situation.
