Rice and Craig Among 15 HOF Finalists
« on: January 09, 2010, 06:29:26 AM »

Five former San Francisco 49ers including Jerry Rice and Roger Craig are among the 15 modern-era finalists up for election into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2010.

http://www.49ers.com/news-and-events/article-1/Rice-and-Craig-Among-15-HOF-Finalists-/e52ba695-91b7-4a72-a8ba-5cdde3838ffe

How fitting &  Cool would it be if they both went in together?!

Fingers crossed.

I have said it before dozens of times - Roger Craig deserves to be in the Hall as much as anyone who isn't in there today (with the exception of Rice and Emmitt). But I don't see him making it this year.

As a fan, I agree, but if I was a hall voter, I would not vote him in.  He doesn't have the numbers or the longevity to warrant being a HOF imo.  He would be in the hall of very good along with Ricky Watters, but not the HOF.

Let the arguments begin.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/peter_king/01/31/mmqb/index.html?eref=sihp

The following is presented simply to open the discussion for the week on the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2010. The 44 selectors for the Hall gather at 9 a.m. Saturday for this year's selection meeting in Fort Lauderdale. I don't throw out the Hall of Fame tote board to say that after locks Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice the guys at the top of the list will definitely get in; the odds are simply my gut feeling from years of being in the Hall of Fame voting room as one of the 44 selectors. But my jaw usually drops the same as yours when some of the votes are made public with the announcement of the new class each year. (We vote by secret ballot, so we don't know who's in until the class is announced by the Hall the afternoon of our vote. This year, the class will be disclosed at 5 p.m. Saturday.)

Odds Candidate Comment
1-5 Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice Discussion on each will take five seconds.
15-1 Roger Craig First ever to get 1,000 rush yards and receiving yards in same year.

I've had that conversation and it wasn't even close. Rice was the consensus choice as the NFL's top receiver.

Bears' Dent could break through
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2009/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=4887462

• Roger Craig, running back, San Francisco 49ers and two other teams: Craig was the halfback who helped make the 49ers' West Coast offense work. He rushed for 8,189 yards and caught 566 passes. He might not have the rushing numbers to make it.

Grimm, Randle, LeBeau part of '10 class

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4893276

Are you surprised only five players from five Super Bowl teams are in the Hall of Fame?

DeBartolo: "I truly believe two guys among the 15, Roger (Craig) and Charles (Haley), they both really changed the game in their own ways. Roger being the first 1,000-1,000 guy. And Charles Haley was a hybrid linebacker/pass rusher. Obviously, he had a few little quirks, but he was a great, great football player. I think those two guys have a chance. And I always thought Randy Cross had an outside chance. He was a very steady player. There might be a couple more."

I think the trouble Roger C is having getting into the Hall will be echoed in a couple of years when Bryant Young becomes eligible.
