> Walt Harris’ career is over, and San Francisco will most likely not resign Dre’ “Roddy White isn’t faster than me” Bly. San Francisco has done a good job turning it around on offense under Mike Singletary, now the defense must do the same. Joe Haden is the top cover corner in the draft, and will form a solid duo with Nate Clements.

I guess this guy did not see much niners football if he thinks the offense was turned around and the defense is the week spot of this team.

I agree that he did not nonetheless, CB has to be a priority entering this draft.

OT and a stud OLB however, I would not complain if we went OT and CB.  Then again, I have always said that Clements is overrated...

#13 San Francisco: The reasoning here is pretty simple. Walt Harris and Dre Bly are well into their 30’s and free agents. Beyond that, Haden is clearly the top cornerback and the board and on draft day it is pretty unlikely he slides this far. He wrecked Cincinnati’s Mardy Gilyard in the Sugar Bowl to cap off a stellar career. Being an elite player on a team that went 26-2 over the past two seasons has kept him in the spotlight and by all accounts he will live up to the hype: CB Joe Haden (Florida)

#17* San Francisco (via Carolina): Barry Sims bailed out their offensive line when left tackle Joe Staley was injured. Adam Snyder proved very average on the right side. Good teams need three solid tackles to get them through a full season. They are in a decent position here because often teams are reaching for a left tackle while the Niners would be okay if someone can manage the right side. In that regard, this is a pretty good option for them. There is a reason the Sooner offense put up a record number of points in 2008. The line across the board was rock solid. Williams played the right side during the record breaking season, and then shifted to the blind side after the other four starters exited Norman. Experience on both sides could push him up this high: OT Trent Williams (Oklahoma)

#49* San Francisco: I’m comfortable with the two first round picks for the 49ers. After that it gets a little murky. Someone to rush the passer on the front seven is probably a more likely selection in this spot. Did you know that 7 of their 16 opponents this past season failed to top 10 points? Of course, on the other end of that spectrum five went for 27+. The defense was hot and cold. Mostly hot against bad teams with limited weapons, and mostly cold against teams talented at the skill positions. Another solid piece in the secondary is necessary because in today’s NFL every team seems to be loaded at receiver and tight end: S Chad Jones (LSU)

13. San Francisco 49ers: Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers

The 49ers have a lot of play makers and have a lot of potential to win their weak division in the upcoming years. Look for the 49ers to take a top rated OT in this 2010 NFL Mock draft in order to help protect Alex Smith who for the time being looks like to be the QB of the future.
02/05/2010 – Anthony Davis is a very good Left tackle and may very well be the second best in this 2010 NFL Mock Draft. I currently have him as my 3rd OT behind Okung and Williams but I definitely think he could jump them both. If he has a good showing at the 2010 NFL Draft Combine then I think he could definitely leap frog Williams.

I was thinking about writing something to spider all of these mocks and put this together, but thankfully this guy did it (albeit manually).

13. San Francisco 49ers: Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa

02/15/2010: Bulaga is the pick in this 2010 NFL Mock Draft. I had Anthony Davis Prior to this but I have him jumping up draft boards because of all his upside. In this 2010 NFL Mock Draft I have Bulaga jumping Trent Williams as the third Tackle.

17. San Francisco 49ers (Carolina): C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson

02/15/2010: Spiller is one of the top RB’s in this 2010 NFL Mock Draft and I have him going as the top 2010 NFL Mock Draft RB. I have him going to the 49ers because he is a steal with this pick and he would complement Frank Gore well. I think that he would be a great RB to go the 49ers to help with both the pass and run game.

Who do you see the 49ers selecting with the 13th pick?

Gil Brandt, NFL.com
Kyle, I think they take an offensive lineman with that pick. they also have the 16th pick ni the first round courtes of the draft-day trade last year with Carolina. I thnk they turn around and use that pick on a defensive player. A corner would be good there.

http://chat.nfl.com/front/archived_chat/781

13. San Francisco 49ers
Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma: The 49ers have struggled up front and will likely take advantage of their two first-round selections to address the offensive line. Davis has emerged as one of the best young left tackles in the country and is only going to get better. He could pair with Joe Staley to provide the 49ers with quality bookend tackles for a decade.

17:

C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson: With Frank Gore as the starter and serviceable backup Glen Coffee, the 49ers hardly need help at running back. With two first-round picks, however, they can afford a luxury pick in an effort to put them over the top in the suddenly winnable NFC West. Scouts have concerns about whether the 5-11, 195-pound Spiller can hold up as an every-down back in the NFL, but paired with the bullish Gore, he certainly wouldn't have to do that. Instead, he'd provide a Reggie Bush-like playmaker on offense and special teams. The 49ers haven't scored multiple touchdowns on punt or kick returns since 1996. Spiller leaves Clemson as the NCAA career leader with seven kickoff returns for touchdowns.

OK, here's my first swing at my "dream" draft for the 9ers:

Rd 1, #13--Trent Wiliams OT Oklahoma.
OK nobody's surprised by this at all.  Could really be any of about 4 or 5 different OT's taken here but Williams looks like the pick.

Rd 1, #17--Mike Iupati OG Idaho.
Yes that's right folks the OL on the 9ers is enough of a problem to warrant TWO first rounders.  Iaputi looks like one of the best OG prospects in years.  Now our OL is set for the next 5 years maybe with the exception of Heitmann who's getting up there.  I could definitely go with a starting lineup of Staley, Rachal, Heitmann, Iupati and Williams.  The OL was broken last year and it needs to be fixed.

Rd 2, #17 (49)--Donovan Warren CB Michigan.
If the 49ers can't pick a winner with the #49 overall pick then I give up and will become a Raider fan I guess (not).  I see the 9ers addressing the future need of CB with Warren.  He's 6 feet tall and has the frame for more mass than he's carrying now, in a couple of years he could be our new Clements so the timing works out perfectly.  He'd pair well with Terrel Brown or Shawntae Spencer on the other corner.  Like I've always said (and Barrows you know you heard it here first) "You can never be too rich, too good looking or have too many starting quality cornerbacks."  Draft a good one every year just for Shintos and Grintos is my motto.

Rd 3, #16 (79)--Jhavid Best RB/KR Cal.
Maybe I'm dreaming that he'll last until the 3rd, but hey Gore lasted that long because he had injury concerns too, that seems to have worked out.  This guy is the total anti-Gore and can really turn up in the return game.  He's a play maker pure and simple and has unbelievable quickness.  He's a steal here, hopefully he'll last that long and I believe he'll prove to be better than Spiller in the end.

Rd 4, #15 (TBD)--Koa Misi OLB Utah
Perhaps he's gone by this pick, I hope not.  The 9ers still need help in the pass rush although things are improving what with Brooks showing up big time late last season.  Misi is the eventual replacement for the underwhelming Manny Lawson who has never lived up to his 1st round potential.

Rd 5, #16--Jordan Shipley WR Texas.
I know I know we don't need a WR but I love this guy and he's the Wes Welker type slot guy the 9ers have been missing.  His 4.57 40 has his stock dropping but I think this guy is quicker than he is fast and is a play maker of the first order.  He's another guy who could prove a real threat in the kick/punt return game as well. He's a total steal in the 5th and is PR/KR insurance in case Jhavid Best gets another concussion.

I'll leave the "junk rounds" to up to McLoughan and hopefully he can find a few gems as he has in the past (see Morgan, Josh).  I think the above top 6 picks would really strengthen the team overall.  If you think that spending 4 of the top 6 picks on offense is making a statement, well then I guess it is.....Are you listening McLoughan?

Nice draft Flack.  I would not mind us going OL with both our first rounders.  Landing Best in round 3 would be fantastic value.

Wonder how much Mays just helped his stock?

The top two defensive backs in the upcoming draft, Tennessee safety Eric Berry and Florida cornerback Joe Haden, had different combine experiences today. Berry generally looked smooth and ran one of his 40 times in 4.4 (unofficially) - a great time for someone who weighs 211 pounds. (His official time was 4.47) Haden ran one of his 40s at 4.6. That's a time that linebackers sometimes surpass. USC safety Taylor Mays, meanwhile, shocked everyone by running an unofficial 4.24 on his first run, according to NFL Network. He clocked 4.34 on the second, raising eyebrows about what his official time will be. (Mays indeed ended up being the fastest DB today, but his "official" combine time was 4.43)

http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/49ers/archives/2010/03/berry-cruises-h.html

. San Francisco 49ers – S Taylor Mays

San Francisco 49ers could change the draft a bit by selecting a freakish player in Taylor Mays. Bringing in Taylor Mays would make the defense pretty scary in 2010. When you upgrade an already good defense like the 49ers, you only help Alex Smith in resurrecting his NFL career. Having Mays in the defensive backfield would help Patrick Willis become the best inside linebacker in the game today. Taylor Mays could come out with some extra coaching and get the notoriety of an Ed Reed or a player like John Lynch.

My dream for the 1st round:

13 - OT (Williams, Bulaga, Davis, whoever is left & highest rated)
17 - Somebody gets hot for a fill-in-the-blank and trades us their 1st in the mid-20's and, say a 3rd rounder. With that later 1st round pick, we take Jahvid Best, plus now have two picks in the 3rd to work with (possibly trade back up in the 2nd for a DB).

Cervant--yes, trading back and picking up another mid-rounder would be sweet.  That's a tough one to call for though, you never know what'll happen draft day.

"Mock draft 1.0: After the combine, Bradford goes first to Rams"

http://www.nfl.com/draft/story?id=09000d5d816b3cfa&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true

13. San Francisco 49ers

Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma
The Niners need a tackle to play opposite Joe Staley if they want to keep pounding Frank Gore and protect Alex Smith. After drafting a guy like Williams, they can figure out who is left and right.

17. San Francisco 49ers

Taylor Mays, S, USC
A rare athlete who will bring a presence to the 49ers' secondary.

#  13. San Francisco - Joe Haden, CB, Florida
Haden has shut down potential, and could be what Nate Clements was a couple years ago.

# 17. San Francisco(from Carolina) - CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson
Singletary has added some solid weapons to the offense but they still lack a game breaker. Spiller’s home run ability as a receiver and runner will be a great fit in the Niner offense.

Grid--Yes you're right, Best in the 3rd is now unrealistic.  I made the mock before reading about his 40 time which means that Al Davis will probably draft him in the first round now.  I still think he's a bargain in round 2 so maybe I'll have to revise the mock to move Best up to round 2 and then try to find a good CB prospect in the 3rd.

I'm still hoping that Misi will be there in the 4th.  He's another local-kid (Santa Rosa) like Best and I always think it's a good idea to draft local kids and keep them close to their family for moral support.

How you guys feel about taking G Mike Iupati, and Spiller (or someone else) in the first and then T Bruce Campbell in the 2nd round?  Despite his great workout some think he could still wind up in the 2nd due to his inconsistent play.  Some have also said that with the right coaching and motivation (see Sing.), with his physical gifts he could be elite.  What surprises me is that a guy who has a questionable work ethic showed up at the combine looking like great.  Pound for pound he might have been one of the most physically fit in Indy last week!

D--Bruce Campbell reminds me a lot of Vernon Davis: both from Maryland, both workout-warrior physical freaks, both with unrealized potential.  I think that like VD that BC will struggle initially but in a few years he could be the best in the game.  I guess if the 9ers think that they can get by with Pashos/Sims at RT for this year and groom Campbell for the future there could be some real interest, especially in the 2nd round.

The problem with that is that we won't get Jahvid best w/ that 2nd rounder.  That's why the idea of packaging one of our first rounders to move back and get more picks, perhaps another 2nd rounder would be sweet.  If somebody falls in love w/ a player that has fallen to the 9ers at 13 or 17 the Niners should take the trade for a 2nd and a 4th or something like that.  This way we can draft Iupati, Campbell AND Best all in the first 2 rounds.  That would be a real coup but the draft is a wild and crazy event that is about as predictable as my ex-wife's mood swings.  Thank god we never had kids, longest year of my life!

You took the words right out of my mouth.  As for Best I have read that this class is deep at rb/kr specialist; and keep in mind we own 2 in the first round so say we do go with G Mike Iupati and then one of the elite tackles at 17; who's to say we don't turn around and take Bruce Campbell in the 2nd?  Now that would more then solve our OL needs for the next 1/2 decade!

Once again this draft it top heavy so a trade down from either of our 1st round picks might also be an option.  Giving us even more options.  We have some serious leverage with those 2 in the first.  I love this time of the year.  Spring is in the air and the draft is just around the corner! Smiley

13. San Francisco 49'ers...OT Trent Williams (Oklahoma)...The Niners need to find a starting left tackle in this draft and have Trent Williams on their radar screen.

17. San Francisco 49'ers (From Carolina)...S Taylor Mays (USC)...The Niners took OT Williams with their first pick in the round and add a player than can help their secondary in Mays...Niners' head coach Mike Singletary came away from the combine very impressed with Mays.

I have seen a couple mocks that have us going with Mike Iupati at 17.  I would rather we draft him at that spot then Mays at this point.  Walk out of the first round with a top guard and tackle = SCHWEETT!

I like Mays I just worry he is one of these kids who kills it at the combine but might struggle (as some of the expert are saying) in the league.  Hell I have even read he belongs at backer.

So true:

Underwear Olympics, aka NFL Combine, irrelevant for evaluating NFL talent

13. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Joe Haden, CB, Florida

Déjà vu all over again? With eyes set on Michael Oher last year, the 49ers passed on the Ole Miss star when Michael Crabtree unexpectedly slipped to them at No. 10 overall. The same could happen with Haden in 2010. The once-considered Top Ten lock had an underwhelming Combine performance, leading folks to wonder whether it was Haden’s cover skills or Florida’s defensive front 7 that made the junior so dominant in Gainesville. Quibble all you want over the how’s and why’s, Haden’s an absolute steal at 13th overall. The Niners have a potential future Pro Bowl CB in Dashon Goldson, but are awfully old across the board beyond that. Dre Bly, Walt Harris, and Nate Clements are hardly spring chickens. Insert Haden and San Fran has two electrifying corners starting on opening day. 40 times be damned.
