I like the comparison to Warner, but JTO has got some wheels.   He’s not a lame duck in a collapsing pocket and he actually run a bootleg or run for the 1st if needed....I’m excited to see how Martz plays Det; Think we need to come and not only win, but destroy them!

San Francisco 49ers (1-1)
The Seahawks never saw the ball in OT. Biggest play, J.T. O'Sullivan to Isaac Bruce (remember him?) for 33 yards. Winning field goal drive was 57 yards. Are we seeing a mini-legend being born? O'Sullivan is 29 years old. He has bounced around on seven NFL teams, including every one in the NFC North. J.T. stands for Janos Tadeusz. No, just kidding. It's John Thomas, but here's an odd thing, namewise. Guess how many O'Sullivans there have been in the NFL's long and illustrious history? You're wrong. Wrong again. The answer is zero - until now.

Martz explains why we took so many sacks in Seattle

Martz said that part of the problem began with headset difficulties.

“They came in and out so he was getting bits and pieces of plays, so he’d call a play and try to put it together, but maybe one of the tags were wrong,” said Martz. “So, when the ball is snapped, you realize someone is out of position and it’s not a pass that we even have. You do what you can to salvage it. In 17 years I’ve never seen anything like that where we couldn’t communicate. It would come on, it would go off and he couldn’t understand us. That was really frustrating and at least three of those sacks were because of that.”

Martz said that on a few others, O’Sullivan could have gotten rid of the ball.

“I think realistically there were probably only three sacks in that game (for the line).”

Wow that is just bs (& the first I have heard that), no excuse for that happening.  Had we lost the game you can bet we would have read allot more about that.  Hats off to JTO for making things happen despite the communication difficulties.  That is where his experience in this offense might have saved us from a loss.

JTO Prospect ANALYSIS
Positives: Has good muscle definition with broad shoulders … Very nimble and light on his feet, getting back quickly to set up and shows good downfield vision … Excels at the double-pump comeback, streaks ropes and posts … Hangs tough under pressure, showing good focus when scrambling to make the plays with either his arm or feet … Natural leader who can change the pace of his tosses and throws an easy pass for his backs to catch … Can rifle the ball into the corner to avoid the safeties and ducks his head when stepping up to avoid the rush … Has the vision to spot his secondary receivers … Fast and dangerous open-field runner who will pull up and make the big play.

AGILITY TESTS
4.88 in the 20-yard dash … 2.81 in the 20-yard dash … 1.7 in the 10-yard dash … 4.28 in the 20-yard shuttle … 7.46 in the three-cone drill … 29-inch vertical jump … 8 feet, 11 inches in the broad jump … 300-pound bench press … 415-pound squat … 260-pound power clean … 31-inch arm length … 9 -inch hands … Right-handed … Wears Contacts.

JT ran a faster shuttle time than QBs Tavarius Jackson and Mrob. He also ran a faster 3-cone than Tavarius Jackson.

There have been quite a few who have been holding back any praise of JT. Some because they were angry about Alex and some because they are wise and wanted to see it consistently from JT before they jumped on the bandwagon.
Nothing personal towards anyone Common, just a general ...DO YOU LIKE HIM YET ?  Sort of like the old " How do you like me now ! ? ! " .

How do you think the Lions fans feel right now ,when their wonderful GM fired Martz and let JT go ( and that was just 2 of his bonehead moves from last year ?

Haha, the Lions can't feel too good at all...  What an F'd up organization.

Roy Williams can't be happy there...   There really isn't a ton of room for him in Dallas...  Think there is any chance we do anything for him next offseason?  He's a FA right?

I was one of the guys who doubted him. But if you'll remember, I doubted him based on his stats. He hadn't shown in two games in a row that he was capable of limiting his turn overs. I even had my doubts after week one. The last two weeks have been a different story, and he's been up to the task. It's still only two weeks, and to be honest, I'm still a little leery, but he clearly has the tools. He seems unshakeable. He has great accuracy, he's mobile enough.  I want to see how he looks against the G-men next week. That game will be the biggest test this season.  The Giants are undefeated. The Giants are coming off a Superbowl season.

I hope he can do it. I want to believe. I'm on my way. Let's face it. The Seahawks were crippled and we just beat the Lions for gods sake. The doubters will dine on crow next week. If we win. If JTO leads us over a proven winner. Give us (all the doubters) one more week. Just to be cautious. I see the potential you saw TIM, I just hope it's realized against a good team at full strength.

What's that old saying? "There are lies and then there are damned lies and then there are stats, lol.  Stats often lie and can be made to say whatever you want them to say (most of the time).

I must report that I did see JT throw his first pass behind a receiver today ( it was complete anyway but the receiver did not get any run after the catch because of JT's pass. ).  He sucks, lol Wink

And I think we play the Saints next week in New Orleans?  The Giants are still down the road a ways but when we do play them I hope their great pass rush doesn't kill JT !

I just saw that JT's QB rating for the season is up to 106.4 ,he is 3rd in the NFL !!!  he was 16 for 23 today with a QB rating of 123.3. But I think he threw away 2 or 3 and had at least 2 good passes dropped. Oh well, nobodys perfect.

And I almost forgot,we are tied for 1st place in the West with the Cards (except they hold the tie breaker at the moment.

This was a great game for JTO! I am sold on him as he seems to have figured out how to avoid his early season/preseason stupid decisions. He did a good job of getting rid of the ball to avoid the sack this time. His decision making is getting better with every game, and he still has great accuracy.

Like everyone else, I really want to see how he performs against a top tier defense before making a final judgment, but he is impressing the hell out of me as it is.

Sorry, looking at something else. I have a problem with schedules. Yes, he's looking really good right now. I really like what he's doing, and I hope he can keep it up, but I want to see him do it against a real defense.

New Orleans doesn't really qualify as a top tier defense.  Don't get me wrong, a win is a win is a win. I'm not saying that he's not better than anything we've had recently, or that the team isn't better than what it was. I'm just saying I'm not entirely prepared to pass a final judgement.

I'm as happy as anyone else. Again, don't get me wrong. I'm not all anti-JTO. I'm just curious what happens when a team that is built around its D comes to town.

This week is about the D. Reggie Bush had his coming out party against us. I hope we can stuff him and Shockey this week.

IF JT plays well against even a couple of the top level defenses we'll be seeing soon (NE, NY, Philly), he should silence all the critics.  Whether we win or lose, imo, will be up to the defense more than JT.

If he arrives at the bye with a rating >90, after meeting some of the tougher defenses in the league he is not just the man, he is the super man. Of course vs NE we may run all the time :-)

Yeah Tim Im sold! I didnt want to hop on the bandwagon right in Training Camp, but that Seattle win showed me something in him. Hostile crowd, good defense, 2nd career start (first ever on the road), sacked 8 times, and still passed 300 yards and won the game.

Remember that ol Niner quarterback, number 16. He also was sacked 8 times in Philly back in 89 and won the game ...I know different circumstances but still, JTO proved he belongs and is the leader of this team

I have one foot on the bandwagon right now but I am reluctant to step all of the way on.  If he performs well against Philadelphia, which is the only good defense we play before the bye, I will jump on.

To be honest I am still bitter about the Alex Smith fiasco however JT has played excellent so far. Like Harv mentioned, I am eager to see how he does against a top notch defense. If he even plays average against a tough D, I will jump onto the bandwagon.

I knocked him hard, and now, he looks damn good. As I mentioned in another thread, it has been a while since I have been this excited about our 49ers DURING the season.

Harv:
Big Ben looked awful against Philly. Setting the bar a little high aren't you? What happens to your opinion if JT struggles aginst Philly?

Bob:
Tell me about it. I haven't been this excited about a Niner team during the regular season in several years.

JT isn't playing like a journeyman reject. He seems to fit in Martz's system so well--quick accurate passes downfield, runs pretty well, good leadership and presence. is he the next Rich Gannon (the journeyman that suddenly lights up)? The next Martz-created pro bowl QB?

I have been very impressed. We don't even have a dominating OL or a true #1 WR. Yet JT is playing very well. A season-rating over 96? Are you kidding?

Oh...Poor MJ.  Alex Smith...he was a first round pick by us a few years ago that just didn't pan out...he is the guy JTO beat out for the starting job this year.  He is still on the 49ers...just on IR.  Poor, Poor, MJ. ;-)

Well I can't judge him off of what he did this week because the Lions are terrible on defense and next week he gets the Saints defense, which isn't much better.  If JTO can but up a passer rating at least in the mid-80s against NE and mid-70s against PHI I will be impressed

He looks the part, simple as that.  He seems unflappable which is remarkable considering his lack of playing time in the NFL.  He's already proven he can play, and play well at this level.  The only question mark is consistency.  Can he play up to this level every week and against better defenses?  Overall he's impressed me very much.  I don't know how Martz does it, but this guy can really spot and develop QB's that fit his system.  We cannot let him get away.
