Should Eddie Debartolo Jr be in the Hall of Fame?

great article about Eddie. Yes he deserves to be in the Hall!! The writers get him in already!

Quote
“When you consider the fact that he won five Super Bowls in (22 years) that puts him in very rare company in our league,” New York Giants co-owner John Mara said. “Anyone with those credentials probably deserves serious considerations.”

Quote
“I think (the DeBartolo-Walsh partnership) had a great deal to do with changing the NFL,” said Holmgren, currently head coach of the Seahawks. “The organizational set up of the 49ers greatly influenced the league … If Bill could think it up, Eddie would pay for it.

“Eddie is about the best owner you could ever work for. He was passionate about his team. He was generous to the point that the league had to come up with a lot of rules. We went to Hawaii for a (Super Bowl) ring ceremony and he took everybody, players, coaches, families, everybody.”

That was evident by the reaction of Karen Lott, the wife of former 49ers defensive back and Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott. As her husband was talking about how other top players would come up to him and talk about how they wanted to play for the 49ers, Karen Lott said: “The wives, too.”

There are so many reasons he derserves to be a HOF'er.

This is just anouther ex. of why he already is a HOF'er as a man.

Dr. Z News of the Week

Your response to the news of Paul Zimmerman's two strokes was heartfelt and overwhelmingly positive. I visited Paul the other day at his new rehabilitation facility in New Jersey, and your e-mails -- printed into a 17-pound ream of more than 2,000 sheets of paper --are by his bedside, helping him get through what will be a long period of recovery. Also by his bed: a New York Jets sweatsuit, with "DR Z'' emblazoned on the pants, with a handwritten get-well note from Eric Mangini; and a huge bouquet of flowers from Eddie DeBartolo Jr.

Now the league needs to take notice and do the right thing by Eddie and get him in the HOF.

I think it would be a classy move to retire #80's jersey and get him into this HOF.

Fund raiser for P. Zimmerman-

Bill Belichick's presence was felt, as was Eddie DeBartolo's and former SI managing editor Mark Mulvoy, for notes and donations to a man they've done battle with often over the years ... and the Cowboys, Eagles, Vikings and Broncos for game-weekend trips that are going to be incredible experiences for eight real fans. And an anonymous person with a heart of gold -- you know who you are, because I know you're reading this right now -- making a Super Bowl trip for two possible.

Eddie D. has always been and continues to be a cut above the rest.

Next the NFL HOF needs to open it's doors to him.

Loved the story that Billick told about his generosity.

Man I miss those days.  I think that Jed. is as close as they come; I am really looking forward to the stamp he is going to put on the 49ers.

How about you, Eddie? Does it weigh on you that there are a lot of people who believe you should be in the Hall of Fame but it hasn't happened yet?

DeBartolo: "Oh, I don't dwell on it. It was an honor just to be a part of the time I had with the 49ers and be able to participate with these guys have them as my friends, and to win five Super Bowls with them. Anything other than that that might happen with the Hall of Fame would just be icing on the cake."

http://blog.pressdemocrat.com/49ers/2010/02/debartolo-accepts-rices-request-to-present-him-at-hall-of-fame.html

In an interview on NFL Sat. radio this week Rice stated emphatically that Eddie should be in as he more then deserves it.

It's only a matter of time before he gets the call imho.
