Mark Your Calendars: Two Special Chat Sessions
« on: May 04, 2008, 05:06:29 AM »

Mark your calendars! 49ersparadise.com and 49erswebzone.com  will be holding two live chats with beat writers Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee and Kevin Lynch of the San Francisco Chronicle. 49ers fans will have the opportunity to ask questions about the draft, the team's first minicamp, or any general inquiries regarding the 49ers.

For those of you that have never taken part in one of our live chats, you will only be able to direct questions toward the moderator, who will give your questions to our special guests to answer. The answers will be posted live in the 49ersparadise.com and 49erswebzone.com shared chat room, and a transcript will be posted shortly after the chat.

Live chat schedule:
Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee
Wednesday, May 7th at 6:30pm Pacific / 9:30pm Eastern

Quote
UPDATE:
Kevin Lynch of the San Francisco Chronicle
Wednesday, May 21th at 6:30pm Pacific / 9:30pm Eastern

Future Chats:

In today's blog, Matt Barrows sez he's been invited by WebZone to the chat. No mention of Dise.

This is ok, just made me wonder what the relative size of the two sites is, both in terms of traffic and in membership.

Not sure how many Disers we had in there a week ago.  Many of the ppl who showed up were registered as "guest" so it was impossible to tell who were from the Dise or the Zone.  I hope this week our members will sign in as themselves so we know who is who.    Looking forward to it! Smiley

Ask Kevin to elaborate on his comment of about a week ago when he said ...

"First-round pick Kentwan Balmer will start off as the team's right defensive end. Coach Mike Nolan said he wants to start the rookie off there and then move him to nose guard. Nolan said the techniques for all three defensive line positions are the same, so it shouldn't be a huge transition for Balmer to move over the center when the time comes."

Did Nolan really say that Balmer would wind up at NG or did he just mean that after Balmer gets his feet wet in the NFL he would play NT as well as DE ? And can he elaborate on his statement that the techniques for all 3 D line positions are the same ?
At the time he wrote it I quoted this statement in a post and J seemed to think the article this came from was rather poor information and out of touch with other writers opinions (such as Matt M and Matt B. ). I would be interested to see if Kevin has changed or updated his opinion.

Here you go D ...

Along with the question about his comments in my post above , I also want to know his opinion on ...

-Will Martz and Manusky both be up in the booth on game day or will one or both of them be on the sidelines ?

-Is building the stadium popular in Santa Clara among the voting population ?

-Is there any real chance that either BY or Larry Allen come back to the Niners for 1 more year ?

-Does Jonas Jennings have his head screwed on straight now or is the team in danger of having him flake out on them once again this year (along with his usual missed games due to injury ) ?

- Has Eric Heitmann come back from the off season any bigger or stronger this year. It seems he often gets pushed back into the face of the QB's and I have been waiting 3 years now for him to come to camp big and strong enough to handle the Center position. Who is the Center of the future,Heitmann,Wallace or Wragge or maybe even Baas ?

I wonder if Nolan has a secret plan of utilizing Justin Smith as an OLB. Justin Smith is faster than Andre Carter. He ran a 4.56 40 his pro day and the slowest time recorded by one of the many team scouts in attendance was 4.66. That is a whole tenth second faster than Andre Carter. Justin Smith is as fast as Shaun Merriman though he probably doesn't have quite the same agility. What do you folks think? Do you think Nolan has a secret plan to utilize Smith as an OLB and he won't even show it during preseason? The Steelers worked him out after the combine as an OLB with the hopes he would fall to the 16th position.

That would put our best players on the field from left to right:

Soap, Franklin, Balmer
Lawson, Thomas, Willis, Smith

Smith looks like a lineman to me. I don't think he is really suited for pass coverage - he may be a really solid player but Julian Peterson he's not.
