I bet we have T. Spikes signed by next week considering we have not addressed that position in the draft at least so far.

Would be interesting if it has been worked out already

They simply must have a solid back up plan unless we go Avril & even if we do they might still bring him here.

PFT is reporting that the Raiders are close to signing ILB Edgerton Hartwell.
I wanted us to draft Hartwell. He was very underrated in Bmore, was the TED ILB there under Nolan. He was signed to a moderate FA deal in Atlanta, where he promptly tore up his knee and was never the same again.
I am still wondering why he wasn't brought in here, as a TC body that knew the position if nothing else. His injury must be really bad if we haven't shown interest (seeing as how we signed just about every other bottom level Bmore cast-off).

J - Try not to think of them as Bmore cast-offs. It helps if you squint a little and see them as quality Bmore defectors whom we stole out from under them. :-)

Solid player a few years ago but your right he's done. Archuleta was outstanding as a Ram and played well against the 49ers. Then, he signed with Washington. The reports I read said he didn't do much there because it was the wrong defensive scheme for his particular talents. When he went to the Bears, it seemed that he was in a better scheme, and in spite of that, it didn't work out, either. He's still young, so what's up? Maybe the money he got when he went to the Redskins just spoiled him (it does happen)? In any case, Martz was in St. Louis when Archuleta was there, and if he thinks he's any good, he will take it up with Nolan, I'm sure.

dumguy: injuries have slowed him down. Everyone has figured out that he cannot cover the pass. Remember that Lovie Smith, the current Bears HC, was the Rams DC when Archuleta was with teh Rams. No coach knows Archuleta better than Lovie will. And he cut him. I can't imagine why we'd be interested.

I'm with J...Archuleta never played for the Ravens... I don't think he has a chance.

I agree, it's unlikely for there to be any interest here. Aside from the fact that his play has been slipping he's essaentially the exact same type of player as Michael Lewis. We don't really need another run stopping Safety we need more that are good in coverage.

Sad to see a player's career cut short by injury--even if he was a Ram.

Henry's talent would be tempting, but we can't forget he was a Bungle! I don't think his talent would offset the trouble and distraction he would cause in the locker room and on the field.

Very true and after what Nolan went through with A. Bryant no way he would even consider bringing in a player who seems to have even more problems.

I found out there are several OTs taht are still available in free agency. All are backups, but most of them have playing experience and even starting experience.
Fred Miller--a 12 year vet that started for the Titans and Bears. On his last legs. Shane Olivea--former SD starter. Lost out to 2nd day pick & benched for poor work ethic. The best backup OT out there. Barry Sims--started at OT and OG for the Raiders. Very inconsistent, probably #3 imo. Oliver Ross--was the RT and OG for the Cards over the last few years, IIRC. Pure backup material, but worth signing. #2. Stockar McDougle--LOL. No really. Wayne Gandy--not a bad choice as an emergency backup. Was a turnstlye as a LT starter for the Falcons. Nat Dorsey--was a high-level prospect entering his junior year at GT. He stunk out loud in the pro's. Barry Stokes--I got nothing.
Not much on the shelf out there available. But surely one of these guys is better than Qasim Mitchell. If Olivea is looking to start, he's out. Ross was ok at his best with the Cards, but our defenders weren't whipping him. Gandy as a pure backup, or 4th OT isn't a bad idea at RT, but he might not be tough enough to play teh position.

Between Robinson abd Perry, I'd rather have Perry.
I know, they're both turds, but Perry, if he ever got his head screwed on right, could be a really good WR.

NFLN just reported we've been visiting with Jerimiah Trotter. Really? Isn't this guy pretty old? He only started one game last year for Tampa...
I'd rather have Spikes.

Pyro - Yes, he is old. But the chances of Spikes coming in to play a sidekick role is pretty slim. Trotter knows he is on the downhill side of his career so he would come cheap and happy to play second fiddle. Plus...he would be a great TED if he were able to stay healthy.

He's 31 but his knees are 92. If he is fairly healthy, it's not a bad idea. His size is ideal for the the TED spot. If he is willing to sign a modest deal, I think it's a good move.

Why replace D. Smith with another old guy in Trotter? Old = slow and that didn't work out to well last year. The reason that the Eagles got rid of him was because he is a liability in pass coverage. How many times last year did D. Smith fail to make a tackle on a rb catching a pass out of the backfield? At least onced a game. I constantly harped on this site that he was to slow and now we should replace him with another slow guy? If he wants to take the vet minimum maybe, but this is a move(if we make it) that I wouldn't be exxcited about.
