Sorry, but, shouldn't this thread be in the Draft/FA area? Not in the 'Literally' section?

Nice R&G. I like the sound of both RB Arkee Whitlock and DE Justin Frick. The other guys don't seem big enough. Don't think these guys will ever be drafted, but more likely a undrafted free agent signing. I guess the real question for these guys will be if they can get into the combine. I'm not sure AA guys can get in.

I mentioned in another thread when D asked me about FSU players, but Lorenzo Booker will be something special. he really showed the world what he could do tonight in the emerald bowl

See, I don't see us drafting a RB right now. We have so many backup players, we need to be drafting starters.

I was really impressed with him too last night CC and remembered you talking about him while I watched part of that game. RG by all means this is what the casual college ball fan *like me* looks for to get familiar with player before the draft! I am going to move this to the draft area.

Thank you D, did not realize until Julie pointed out that I was in the wrong section!
These are only small colleges D... most will not get drafted or even invited to the combine. I'll post some more latter on, there this one kid from Grambling State that looks impressive - Andre Bennett 6' 7" 330 RT - a beast!

Would not hurt any of our feelings if we found a mid to late round gem that can come in and lock down that rt position for the next 10 years. I really think that K. Harris is a back up at best next season if he is back at all. I wonder if we might move him before the draft vs just cutting him? What could we resonably expect if we did trade him for a draft pick?

What team would want a slow moving RT that cannot prevent a rushing DE/OLB from killing their franchise player? Seems that there is only one team out there that does - the 49er's! Hope that he is moved or relegated to backup status, maybe someone can show him how to get the job done? Does he lack a good teacher or is he just beyond help?

I remember when he was drafted many said he was a boom or bust type player. He has his moments where he looks good but he is so inconsistant and lacks the focus that has cost us too many times. Maybe I am insane but I would take a 5th for him vs letting him walk for notta which could happen.

Who would give a 5th for him? Teams have seen how worthless he is! He will be playing in the Arena League or CFL next year! Wait a minute! Not sure he would make it there either!
The thing that is gonna suck is that once released or traded, he figures it all out and becomes a Pro Bowler!

at this point in time, I wouldnt be mad at the niners if they had to give a team a 5th and Harris just to take him off our hands

IMHO I would put down David Ball as a diamond in the rough!!!!! Ball is a WR out of New Hampshire and has quite a few records as far as I can tell. Hard to say if it will translate into the pros or not.

Yeah, I had talked about Ball in another thread. Really like the kid a lot. Some info on Brian Leonard - FB - Rutgers http://brianleonard23.com/

I know that Leonard can run and catch the ball. The guy is a stud at that. But can he block? I think our full backs need to be more of a blocker than anything else. We need that guy that can open the holes for Gore. Bring back William Folyd. hahaha

I posted this a few weeks back in a different thread and I thought I'd repost it here: I thought I'd post some possible late round Linebacker gems we might pick-up in case we do draft a Ginn or Johnson in the 1st round (which I still think would be a mistake). I looked for LB's with good measurables and decent college production that weren't expected to go on the first day because I think this draft may be deep at the LB position (outside of the first round): 1) Quinton Culberson - 6'3" 242 lbs (4.5 forty (high school) He's a converted safety that plays MLB for Mississippi State. I remebered Urlacher is a converted Safety so he caught my attention. He's started at CB, SS, OLB, and ILB in his career and had 102 tackles (12 for loss) this season. He has had some injury issues, but no more than average. Update - apparently he ran a dismal 4.75 forty time somewhere and is now projected to go in the 6th. I have a hard believing he got on the field at CB if he really runs a 4.75. Guess we'll have to wait for the combinehttp://www.mstateathletics.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=18&change_well_id=17&member_id=1602) Justin Warren - 6'2" 245 lbs 4.5 forty (high school). Living in big twelve country has allowed me to see this Texas A&M guy play a few times. I noticed him last year. He's a good character type guy that flies to the ball like there is a magnet in it. Update - Warren is now projected as a third round pick - so I prob can't call him a gem anymorehttp://www.aggieathletics.com/bios.php?SID=MFB&PID=7169&YOS=2006

Hey I really like this kid-Brian Leonard, he looks tough in the run and he does do alot of blocking. Also Ray Rice came out of nowhere to have a great season and Leonard was his lead blocker. He's unselfish and can play ball, it would be nice to have a FB that does more than just block kinda like Craig was whaen he played FB with us.
RG-- what round do you think he will go??

Norris is a bull but I am really hoping we bring in anouther more versatile type fb in this draft. This kid can obviously catch the ball something that Norris is not known for. Thanks for the link.

It is hard to say what round he might go in. Think back to last years draft, only 3 FB's were drafted and the earliest was in the 5th round. The top FB, Bernstein from Wisconsin was not even drafted! The FB that I liked, Lawrence Vickers was drafted in the 6th round. There will be a team that will take Leonard, could be a late 2nd (at the most) and he could last til the 5th round, but I seriously doubt it. The kid just has to much talent! I think he would excel in a West Coast Offense, catching the ball is his forte and would be an excellent option out of the backfield for a QB (lets say, Alex Smith).

Prob. a guy that we could take a flier on late on day 2 but A. Lee has improved/been more consistent this season.

He looked a little fragile in my opinion. I thought USC's defense did a pretty good job in containing him. Then again, being a USC fan I am a little biased... what were his game stats?

Jay Alford DT PSU this guy doesn't get as much pub but he sure makes alot of plays in the backfield. He's a bit undersized and if we ever decided to go to a 43 he would be a great candidate for a quick, rushing tackle. Here's his bio http://www.gopsusports.com/Football/people/Player.cfm?rosterid=1923Stats last 2 years 2005 37 tackles 11.5 tackles for loss 8.5 sacks 2006 32 tackles 14.5 tackles for loss 8 sacks
