Owens BBall Attitude Carries Over
June 5 2002
By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise
It appears that Owens trip to the USBL to play basketball may have done more good than simply getting him into better shape. Owens time playing basketball has also rejuvenated his love for sports. Something that he’s carried over to the 49ers so far this off-season.

While with the Adriondack Wildcats, Owens bonded with team mates, paying for team dinners, team busses, and just hanging out with the guys. It’s something he hadn’t done with the 49ers in ages. But this attitude seems to have stayed with Owens as he returned to the 49ers last week to participate in mini-camps.

Owens attitude is known to change by the minute. He wears his emotions on his sleeves, and so its still impossible to claim that he’s a ‘new man’, but it would certainly seem so. Owens isn’t quite chummy with coach Mariucci - and I wouldn’t expect that to happen any time soon, but the two are on speaking terms which is a huge improvement. Owens is also building relations with his team mates - another encouraging sign.

It is still unclear at this point as to whether Terrell will return to the Wildcats for their playoff games. He could, the ball is in his court, but he’s waiting to see how he ‘feels’. Owens remaining healthy is a key to the 49ers season, and an injury that late in the off-season could bring havoc to the 49ers. While I was somewhat opposed to Owens first trip to the USBL, it turned out to have some very strong benefits, but another trip this season, I am just completely opposed to that.

Talk about it in the 49ers Paradise Forum
