Just when the 49ers thought they would have almost their entire offensive line back for Saturday, things took a turn for the worse. Center Jeremy Newberry was re-injured in practice on Wednesday after the team had a much needed ay off on Tuesday.
Newberry jammed his ring finger during practice pretty badly, and is set to undergo some x-rays to determine the extent of the damage.
Most offensive lineman can play with their fingers taped or splinted but as a center, Newberry needs all his fingers so he can grip the ball properly. He is now likely to miss the Raiders game, contrary to earlier reports.
The signing of center Ben Lynch continues to prove its worth. The 49ers would be foolish to let him go at this point.
